Paper Cup Manufacturing Standard

1. No pattern can be printed within 15mm of the cup mouth. Previously, disposable paper cups had only industry standards and lacked national standards. This national standard (GB/T 27590-2011) puts forward higher requirements on raw materials, additives, packaging, printing, etc. of paper cups to ensure the safety of consumers. The most concerned is the first requirement for the printing position, which stipulates that the printed pattern on the outside of the paper cup should be clear, uniform in color, and no obvious stains. However, ‘the cup should not be printed within 15mm from the cup body and 10mm from the bottom of the cup. ’. ‘No printing at the mouth of the cup is to protect consumers. ’ Dong Jinshi, executive vice president and secretary general of the International Food Packaging Association, said that there is currently no concept of food-grade inks in China, and no printing inks that can be used to contact food. When the lips touch the mouth of the cup when drinking water, the ink in the printed pattern may be ingested, especially the ink containing benzene is more harmful to health. At the same time, when the cup is set, there is a printed pattern on the bottom of the cup, and it is easy to rub the color on the inner wall of another cup, so the bottom also requires no printing.

2. Fluorescent brighteners should not be artificially added to the raw materials used to make paper cups. In order to avoid the production of toxic solvents, the national standard stipulates that paper cups should not have peculiar smell, and should not use recycled materials. The additives used in raw materials should meet the requirements of the implementation standard. Additives that are not within the scope of GB 9685, such as brighteners, industrial paraffin, and industrial talcum powder, cannot be used in the production and processing of paper cups. Dong Jinshi said that this means that “even the contaminated scraps of the workshop should not be used for the production and processing of paper cup base paper, and all raw materials and additives should meet the requirements of food packaging grade, and no fluorescent whitening agent can be artificially added. ” and encouraged. Use water-based inks, UV curable inks, vegetable oil inks and other energy-saving and environmentally friendly inks to produce paper cups. In addition, the standard also stipulates the stiffness and permeability of the paper cup. The bottom and sides of the paper cup should not leak or seep water. If the paper cup is too soft, it will not meet the standard. All packaging materials for paper cups should have sufficient airtightness and firmness, and paper cup packaging should be dust-proof, moisture-proof and mildew-proof.
